First of all, SPA stands for ‘Specialty store retailer of Private label Apparel’, referring to a brand do the whole processes from production to distribution. SPA brands are rising because it sufficient the customer’s need by cost efficiency from mass production and quick apparel circulation. In other words, SPA is a clothing retail strategy of its efficient and reasonable price labeling, quick trends adoptability, and well known branches.

SPA is also known as “fast fashion” which
comes from the phrase “fast food”. In fact, fast fashion is also often called
as “Mc-fashion” which originated from the term, popular fast food chain,
McDonalds.

There are two significant characteristics of
SPA Brands.
First one is Cost Efficiency. Compared to conventional retail stores, fast fashion brands produce new
clothes more frequently and rapidly. In contrast to the conventional system
involving three market agents naming producer, supplier, and consumer, the SPA
process operates between two agents only: producer & supplier-consumer. In
other words, by reducing three steps to two steps, companies can reduce the
time to create trendy cloths at a reduced price. SPA’s integrated system shows
that retailers simplified the process by taking charge of everything from
designing and manufacturing to distributing and selling. Such simplified
distribution, which drastically cuts marketing expenses, SPA retailers are able
to offer low prices to consumers. For instance, in Spain retail branch ZARA,
new clothes are brought into the showrooms twice a week.
The second feature is Quick adaption of Trend. SPA strategy
is gaining more popularity because it quickly adopts the latest trends. One of
the most successful cases of SPA strategy, Japanese brand UNIQLO's swift
reaction to customers' responses and needs heavily influences on its
manufacturing process. UNIQLO's marketing team gathers responses from consumers
through several methods, such as customer feedback sheets placed in their
stores and regular surveys. Integrating his feedback into their production
cycle, brands try to incorporate emerging style trends in various ways.
The reason why
SPA strategy is gaining world-wide popularity is that it is low-priced.
Consumers are satisfied with the fact that they can wear clothes of the latest
trend with reasonable price. SPA apparels often benchmark famous designers’
collections into their designs and manufacture their own brand’s products
through a distributor that specializes in retail stores. Although clothes are
mass-produced with a quick apparel circulation, customers do not run into the
same clothes the second time of their visit to the retail shop. Another reason
lies in their pleasant shopping environment. Consumers can easily access the
store and try clothes on in the fitting rooms as much as they want without
interruption. This is different from high-priced department store.
